Which format should you choose?
| Format | Ideal for |
|---|---|
| 16:9 (landscape) | TV, projector, computer, YouTube. This is the default format. |
| 4:3 (classic) | photos from a traditional camera, an "album" look. |
| 1:1 (square) | Instagram, Facebook. |
| 9:16 (portrait) | stories, TikTok, watching on a phone. |
| Auto (adaptive) | adapting to every screen the slideshow is watched on. |
Choose or change the format
You choose the format when you create the project (the Image format field, or the Appearance step on a phone) and you can change it at any time:
- In the editor, open the Project settings panel (it appears on the right, or when you click the Project folder in the library).
- In Video format, select the format you want.
- Click Save: the preview updates.
Your photos are never cropped
A vertical photo in a 16:9 slideshow, a panorama in a square format: Diapofy always shows the whole photo, without cutting off anyone's face. The remaining space around it is filled with the background you choose.
The four background types
The background is set in Project settings › Background and applies to the whole slideshow.
- Colour: black by default, a dozen ready-made shades, or any colour you like.
- Gradient: two colours (start and end) and the direction of the gradient.
- Image: one of the project's photos as a backdrop (on a computer).
- Blur: the photo on screen is repeated in the background, enlarged and blurred. The background follows each photo.
Going further: the slideshow style
On your first project, the wizard offers four styles (Soft, Dynamic, Cinematic, Minimal) that set the transition, the duration of each photo and the Ken Burns effect (a gentle zoom on the photos) in one go. Everything can be changed afterwards: the Duration per image in the project settings, and each slide's transition from around fifty effects.
